Are you HST Ready?
Starting July 1, 2010, the Harmonized Sales Tax will come into effect in Ontario and British Columbia. For information on how this may affect you or your business, go to www.cra.gc.ca/harmonization. To download this page as a pdf click here.
If you are using the DPS Extend application, several files may require updating. Exactly which ones depend upon how you choose to implement HST, i.e. changing the tax rate in the jurisdiction already assigned to the affected customers or creating a new tax jurisdiction.

You must take action to maintain open orders entered prior to when you maintain your tax tables. Orders entered prior to the July 1st date and not shipping until after June 30 must be maintained in the Order Entry system of DPS Extend. What does this mean to you? On July 1st, before shipping an order that was entered prior to the tax tables being changed, you must take the order through the Order Entry maintenance process and update the applicable HST tax fields. If you've changed the taxing jurisdiction, you must change the customer taxing jurisdiction carried on the order header screen.
In all cases, you must use the Change Order menu option to access the line detail in order to change the tax rate. On the Order Detail screen, take the F8 = Overrides to access and rekey the tax rate displayed to override to the new tax rate. Remember this is only for orders that are being shipped to an Ontario or British Columbia customer. (IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO DETERMINE WHICH ORDERS WILL BE AFFECTED.)
*** If you are using DPS Extend and would like assistance with knowing how many orders you may need to maintain on July 1st, and/or are interested in having the these open orders updated without manual intervention, please contact your Software Support Analysis or your Project Leader.
