Fimat: Focus on e-Reports
Challenge:
Fimat is one of the world's largest global brokers. They are a wholly owned subsidiary of Société Générale in France. They offer clearing and execution services on exchange traded financial and commodities futures and options contracts across 21 marketplaces. Fimat wanted to be a technology leader in providing the 1000 plus professionals with online access to their portfolios. They wanted to leverage their internal AS/400 knowledge base and eliminate the cost of the labor intensive and error prone manual fax process of statement disbursement. Fimat wanted to ensure this value-added service would be made available to their end users 24/7 and provide them options for a user-controlled experience and an automated process.
Solution:
DPS is the hardware vendor for the Chicago-headquartered Fimat. We were also involved in the San Francisco Java project with IBM at the time and a recognized leader with Java. Three years ago when Fimat was planning this endeavor, there were new tools for the AS/400 to be used as an encrypted Web server. DPS provided the expertise to turn Fimat's concepts into a reality. DPS used a combination of skills with a Web server product called Commerce Server/400 by INET, RPG programming, Java programming, and Visual Basic ActiveX controls to create a vision called Fimacis. This product allows end users to establish an Internet connection anytime/anywhere and view, print, or download their private and encrypted statements. They can build their own queries of information and save the formats to be re-used. They can automate the entire process and have "Fimacis Scheduler" dial in and make the request for them in the middle of the night, providing them with a report to their printer the next morning. There is also a tiered administrative feature built in, so that Fimat can allow their offices around the world to set up their own users and avoid a lot of the administrative tasks.
Business Benefits:
Reduce fax service costs
Eliminate the 30% fax failure rate
Improve customer service
