DPS Introduces French Version Of DPS Extend™
Just over a year ago, DPS Canada entered a partnership with Infox, Inc. that will assist DPS in the sale and support of DPS software products. The partnership positions Infox as the Quebec distributor of DPS products.
Part of the agreement between the two companies includes the translation of DPS Extend software into French.
With approximately 350 customers throughout Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, and Great Britain, DPS already has a strong install base using the English version of DPS Extend. The software is an easy-to-use, web-enabled system that helps businesses run every aspect of their distributorship more efficiently and profitably. DPS Extend is based on the iSeries® (AS/400® ) platform and works in compatibility with EDI, internet / intranet, and workflow/office communication databases to provide a link between a business and its customers and vendors.
Established in 1962, Dufort & Lavigne Ltee, a Montreal-based distributor of medical equipment and supplies, is the first customer to implement the French version of DPS Extend. The French translation of Extend was completed in February 2002 and Dufort and Lavigne were operational by the end of March. Now that the translation is complete, Jim Moore, General Manager for DPS Canada anticipates that it will open the door to other software sales opportunities in the Quebec distribution industry.
"To be successful in the Quebec market, the only thing that made sense for DPS was to have a bilingual presence," Moore explained.
"Our partnership with Infox provides this. They are a bilingual, Quebec owned and operated company and are providing the development expertise and support for the French version of DPS Extend," he said.
The translation process has presented some unique challenges, especially since this is the first time in DPS history that it has translated software into another language. Moore said there are some strict language laws in place in Canada. For many companies, especially in Quebec, it’s French first, English second.
Moore said he is pleased about the partnership between DPS and Infox.
"We are really excited about this opportunity," he said. "Infox impressed us with their professionalism, as well as their iSeries® (AS/400®) expertise and software knowledge gained over the past 13 years. We share similar philosophies when it comes to customer service and maintaining a long-term customer relationship. Infox clearly cares about its customers and so do we. At DPS, we believe in a ‘customer for life’ philosophy." |
